I’m a fan of chess-boxing, how could you not be. But there does seem to be an elemental imbalance in the skills required. If the the first round was boxing, what would stop a decent fighter from brutishly knocking out his opponent before ever demonstrating his functional illiteracy or complete inability at chess? And if the chess came first, all he would have to do is learn how to prevent the classic 4 move checkmate and hold on for the fisticuffs. So, I don’t believe Olympic material. Now, chess-synchronized swimming would be something to talk about.

There are a lot of good things about TiVo/DVRs, but one of them is certainly the ability to skip the “meet the athlete who overcame adversity” packages. Also the medal ceremonies. And anything Al Trautwig says.

From today’s news, and further proof of the worth of my contest entries:

Neil - when all the “scientific testing” on this newfound bigfoot is complete (done in complete isolation from the journalistic hounds, naturally), we will reconsider your entry. Until the, keep practicing your 4-move-checkmate skills.
