If we follow your rationale to its logical conclusion, the Amazon Indians are alien beings sent here by gods. The question then becomes quite simple: Are they benevolent or evil? Only time - and suburban development into eastern Peru - will tell.
Great show, I’m a new fan!

I think the evil is in the title of this episode. I haven’t even listened yet, but I’m already worried. I defy anyone to say the title of this episode 10 times fast.

Wow, Arturo, though your command of the English language is tenuous, your comments are prescient! I respectfully suggest that you be sure to listen to our next episode. I’ll say no more!

Great episode. I find myself, rather surprisingly, wanting to try iowaska. What do you guys think?

Naturally, WRI cannot condone the use of controlled substances. That’s why we would NEVER tell you any of the following:
First, it’s spelled “hayauasca.” This should help you refine your google searches.
Second, you should always take hallucinogenic drugs with a “sitter” to keep an eye on you.
Third, you would have a far better experience if you actually go to the source! We DO NOT CONDONE such behavior, and if you were to fly to Iquitos, then take a ferry to the small town of Bretana, and then, finally, trek through the forest for a couple of days until you reach the tiny indigenous village of Tamshiyacu, and contact a “guide” named “Israel,” we would have to deny any knowledge of your existence.
Hope this helps. Stay in school!

Why are you pushing me to do drugs? Also, what is the best airline to take to Peru?

Neither TACA nor LAN condone the use of Hayauasca either.

As far as you are aware, (and I know, you do not condone nor recommend use of controlled substances), has hayauasca taken under the watchful care of a reputable shaman helped people with mental disorders, i.e., OCD, anxiety, bi-polarity? I’ve read reports in Discover that were favorable for psychiatric issues. Do you personally have testimonials? Or were they in the show mentioned above? Have you heard of side effects or “bad trips” as it were? Thanks.

Seriously? Actually we have heard of that, but not so much for mental disorders. Mainly we’ve heard of it being used as a treatment for addiction. Never heard about bad trips; on the other hand, never heard of people being “cured” either.

Seriously. Check Discover magazine archives on it. I read it months ago. It’s supposed to be far beyond any psychedelic and allegedly helps by-pass long, expensive therapy sessions and the taking of meds which I’ve been told only makes one fat and more depressed. Discover mentioned another (not yet sanctioned) drug, too, recently that also helps with disorders.
