I would give my left nut to learn ship-to-ship combat. Ok, maybe Dick Cheney’s left nut…

Like Mark, I was somewhat unsettled not to have your traditional show opening. None the less, I went and nominated you, however, I did so in the education category as that is what this show is. It is an education.

The artist Fran mentioned who staged the various sea battles in NYC is Duke Riley. His first was the launching of an 18th century submarine to attack the Queen Mary II which was in NY Harbor, apperently he found its presence threatening to the republic. The second, took place in Flushing Meadow park practically in the shadow of the Unisphere. In the ancient Roman Coliseum they would flood the arena and stage naval battles with replica ships. The same was done here, but surrounding the pool where they fought many boxes of tomatoes were placed and when the ships entered from behind a curtain a full scale tomato war broke out. It was very depressing
